antiandrogen:

maybe people who dont want children wouldnt have children if there was no greater cultural message about how becoming a parent is the summit of adulthood and that you’ll never be a complete person (read: woman) if you never become a parent (read: mother). maybe people wouldn’t be surprised to discover that having a child won’t transform you if there was no mythology about parenthood and nurturing instincts being innate in all people, waiting to be awaken by the gift of birth. maybe women who report having regrets about having children wouldnt have so many regrets if they were allowed to hold a role outside of “mother”, if their lives didn’t have to come to a halt and become completely devoted to childrearing.
